Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the chosen ones who are living as foreigners in the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܐܬܓܒܝܘ ܒܡܩܕܡܘܬ ܝܕܥܬܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܐܒܐ ܒܩܕܝܫܘܬܐ ܕܪܘܚܐ ܕܢܗܘܘܢ ܠܡܫܡܥܬܐ ܘܠܪܣܣ ܕܡܗ ܕܝܫܘܥ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܛܝܒܘܬܐ ܘܫܠܡܐ ܢܣܓܐ ܠܘܬܟܘܢ

according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, that you may obey Jesus Christ and be sprinkled with his blood: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.

ܡܒܪܟ ܗܘ ܐܠܗܐ ܐܒܘܗܝ ܕܡܪܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܗܘ ܕܒܚܢܢܗ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܐܘܠܕܢ ܡܢ ܕܪܝܫ ܒܩܝܡܬܗ ܕܝܫܘܥ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܠܣܒܪܐ ܕܚܝܐ
dkhy' lsbr' mshykh' dyshwe bqymthh drysh mn 'wldn sgy'' dbkhnnh hw mshykh' yshwe dmrn 'bwhy 'lh' hw mbrk
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

ܘܠܝܪܬܘܬܐ ܕܠܐ ܡܬܚܒܠܐ ܘܠܐ ܡܬܛܢܦܐ ܘܠܐ ܚܡܝܐ ܗܝ ܕܡܛܝܒܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܒܫܡܝܐ
bshmy' lkwn dmTyb' hy khmy' wl' mthTnp' wl' mthkhbl' dl' wlyrthwth'
to an incorruptible and undefiled inheritance that doesn’t fade away, reserved in Heaven for you,

ܟܕ ܢܛܝܪܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܒܚܝܠܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܘܒܗܝܡܢܘܬܐ ܠܚܝܐ ܕܡܛܝܒܝܢ ܕܢܬܓܠܘܢ ܠܙܒܢܐ ܐܚܪܝܐ
'khry' lzbn' dnthglwn dmTybyn lkhy' wbhymnwth' d'lh' bkhyl' 'nthwn nTyryn kd
who by the power of God are guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

ܕܒܗܘܢ ܬܚܕܘܢ ܠܥܠܡ ܐܦܢ ܒܗܢܐ ܙܒܢܐ ܩܠܝܠ ܡܬܬܥܝܩܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܒܢܣܝܘܢܐ ܡܫܚܠܦܐ ܕܥܕܝܢ ܥܠܝܟܘܢ
elykwn dedyn mshkhlp' bnsywn' 'nthwn mththeyqyn qlyl zbn' bhn' 'pn lelm thkhdwn dbhwn
Wherein you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been put to grief in various trials,

ܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܒܘܚܪܢܐ ܕܗܝܡܢܘܬܟܘܢ ܢܬܚܙܐ ܕܡܝܬܪ ܡܢ ܕܗܒܐ ܣܢܝܢܐ ܕܐܬܒܩܝ ܒܢܘܪܐ ܠܬܫܒܘܚܬܐ ܘܠܐܝܩܪܐ ܘܠܩܘܠܣܐ ܒܓܠܝܢܗ ܕܝܫܘܥ ܡܫܝܚܐ
mshykh' dyshwe bglynh wlqwls' wl'yqr' lthshbwkhth' bnwr' d'thbqy snyn' dhb' mn dmythr nthkhz' dhymnwthkwn dbwkhrn' 'ykn'
that the proof of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes even though it is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ—

ܗܘ ܕܠܐ ܚܙܝܬܘܢܝܗܝ ܘܡܚܒܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܗ ܘܒܗܝܡܢܘܬܗ ܪܘܙܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܒܚܕܘܬܐ ܡܫܒܚܬܐ ܕܠܐ ܡܬܡܠܠܐ
mthmll' dl' mshbkhth' bkhdwth' 'nthwn rwzyn wbhymnwthh lh 'nthwn wmkhbyn khzythwnyhy dl' hw
whom not having known you love; in whom, though now you don’t see him, yet believing, you rejoice greatly with joy unspeakable and full of glory—

ܕܬܩܒܠܘܢ ܦܘܪܥܢܐ ܕܗܝܡܢܘܬܟܘܢ ܚܝܐ ܕܢܦܫܬܟܘܢ
dnpshthkwn khy' dhymnwthkwn pwren' dthqblwn
receiving the result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

ܗܢܘܢ ܚܝܐ ܕܥܩܒܘ ܗܘܘ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ ܢܒܝܐ ܟܕ ܐܬܢܒܝܘ ܥܠ ܛܝܒܘܬܐ ܕܥܬܝܕܐ ܗܘܬ ܕܬܬܝܗܒ ܠܟܘܢ
lkwn dththyhb hwth dethyd' Tybwth' el 'thnbyw kd nby' elyhwn hww deqbw khy' hnwn
Concerning this salvation, the prophets sought and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you,

ܘܒܨܘ ܕܒܐܝܢܐ ܙܒܢܐ ܡܚܘܝܐ ܘܡܣܗܕܐ ܪܘܚܗ ܕܡܫܝܚܐ ܕܥܡܪܐ ܒܗܘܢ ܕܥܬܝܕܝܢ ܚܫܘܗܝ ܕܡܫܝܚܐ ܘܬܫܒܘܚܬܗ ܕܡܢ ܒܬܪܟܢ
bthrkn dmn wthshbwkhthh dmshykh' khshwhy dethydyn bhwn demr' dmshykh' rwkhh wmshd' mkhwy' zbn' db'yn' wbtsw
searching for who or what kind of time the Spirit of Christ, which was in them, pointed to, when he predicted the sufferings of Christ, and the glories that would follow them.

ܘܐܬܓܠܝ ܠܗܘܢ ܟܠ ܕܒܨܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܡܛܠ ܕܠܘ ܠܢܦܫܗܘܢ ܒܥܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܐܠܐ ܠܢ ܕܝܠܢ ܡܬܢܒܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܗܫܐ ܐܬܓܠܝ ܠܟܘܢ ܒܝܕ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܣܒܪܢܟܘܢ ܒܪܘܚܐ ܕܩܘܕܫܐ ܕܐܫܬܕܪ ܡܢ ܫܡܝܐ ܕܒܗܝܢ ܒܗܠܝܢ ܡܬܪܓܪܓܝܢ ܐܦ ܡܠܐܟܐ ܕܢܕܝܩܘܢ

To them it was revealed, that not to themselves, but to you, they ministered these things, which now have been announced to you through those who preached the Good News to you by the Holy Spirit sent out from heaven; which things angels desire to look into.

ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܚܙܘܩܘ ܚܨܐ ܕܬܪܥܝܬܟܘܢ ܘܐܬܬܥܝܪܘ ܓܡܝܪܐܝܬ ܘܣܒܪܘ ܥܠ ܚܕܘܬܐ ܕܐܬܝܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܒܓܠܝܢܗ ܕܡܪܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܡܫܝܚܐ
mshykh' yshwe dmrn bglynh lkwn d'thy' khdwth' el wsbrw gmyr'yth w'ththeyrw dthreythkwn khts' khzwqw hn' mTl
Therefore prepare your minds for action, be sober, and set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ—

ܐܝܟ ܒܢܝܐ ܡܫܬܡܥܢܐ ܘܠܐ ܬܫܬܘܬܦܘܢ ܬܘܒ ܠܪܓܝܓܬܟܘܢ ܩܕܡܝܬܐ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܪܓܝܢ ܗܘܝܬܘܢ ܕܠܐ ܒܝܕܥܬܐ
bydeth' dl' hwythwn drgyn 'ylyn qdmyth' lrgygthkwn thwb thshthwthpwn wl' mshthmen' bny' 'yk
as children of obedience, not conforming yourselves according to your former lusts as in your ignorance,

ܐܠܐ ܗܘܘ ܩܕܝܫܝܢ ܒܟܠܗܘܢ ܗܘܦܟܝܟܘܢ ܐܝܟ ܕܩܕܝܫ ܗܘ ܡܢ ܕܩܪܟܘܢ
dqrkwn mn hw dqdysh 'yk hwpkykwn bklhwn qdyshyn hww 'l'
but just as he who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all of your behavior;

ܡܛܠ ܕܟܬܝܒ ܕܗܘܝܬܘܢ ܩܕܝܫܝܢ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܐܦ ܐܢܐ ܩܕܝܫ ܐܢܐ
'n' qdysh 'n' d'p 'ykn' qdyshyn dhwythwn dkthyb mTl
because it is written, “You shall be holy; for I am holy.”

ܘܐܢ ܗܘ ܕܐܒܐ ܩܪܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܗܘ ܕܠܝܬ ܩܕܡܘܗܝ ܡܣܒ ܒܐܦܐ ܘܕܐܢ ܠܟܠܢܫ ܐܝܟ ܥܒܕܘܗܝ ܒܕܚܠܬܐ ܐܬܕܒܪܘ ܒܙܒܢܐ ܗܢܐ ܕܬܘܬܒܘܬܟܘܢ
dthwthbwthkwn hn' bzbn' 'thdbrw bdkhlth' ebdwhy 'yk lklnsh wd'n b'p' msb qdmwhy dlyth hw 'nthwn qryn d'b' hw w'n
If you call on him as Father, who without respect of persons judges according to each man’s work, pass the time of your living as foreigners here in reverent fear:

ܟܕ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܠܐ ܒܟܣܦܐ ܕܒܠܐ ܘܠܐ ܒܕܗܒܐ ܐܬܦܪܩܬܘܢ ܡܢ ܥܒܕܝܟܘܢ ܣܪܝܩܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܩܒܠܬܘܢ ܡܢ ܐܒܗܝܟܘܢ
'bhykwn mn dqblthwn hnwn sryq' ebdykwn mn 'thprqthwn bdhb' wl' dbl' bksp' dl' 'nthwn ydeyn kd
knowing that you were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers,

ܐܠܐ ܒܕܡܐ ܝܩܝܪܐ ܕܐܡܪܐ ܕܡܘܡܐ ܘܛܘܠܫܐ ܠܝܬ ܒܗ ܕܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܡܫܝܚܐ
mshykh' d'ythwhy bh lyth wTwlsh' dmwm' d'mr' yqyr' bdm' 'l'
but with precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish or spot, the blood of Christ;

ܗܘ ܕܡܩܕܡ ܗܘܐ ܦܪܝܫ ܠܗܕܐ ܡܢ ܩܕܡ ܬܪܡܝܬܗ ܕܥܠܡܐ ܘܐܬܓܠܝ ܒܐܚܪܝܬܗܘܢ ܕܙܒܢܐ ܡܛܠܬܟܘܢ
mTlthkwn dzbn' b'khrythhwn w'thgly delm' thrmythh qdm mn lhd' prysh hw' dmqdm hw
who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in this last age for your sake,

ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܒܐܝܕܗ ܗܝܡܢܬܘܢ ܒܐܠܗܐ ܗܘ ܕܐܩܝܡܗ ܡܢ ܒܝܬ ܡܝܬܐ ܘܝܗܒ ܠܗ ܫܘܒܚܐ ܕܗܝܡܢܘܬܟܘܢ ܘܣܒܪܟܘܢ ܢܗܘܐ ܥܠ ܐܠܗܐ
'lh' el nhw' wsbrkwn dhymnwthkwn shwbkh' lh wyhb myth' byth mn d'qymh hw b'lh' hymnthwn db'ydh 'ylyn
who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead, and gave him glory; so that your faith and hope might be in God.

ܟܕ ܢܗܘܝܢ ܩܕܝܫܢ ܢܦܫܬܟܘܢ ܒܡܫܬܡܥܢܘܬܗ ܕܫܪܪܐ ܘܢܗܘܝܢ ܡܠܝܢ ܚܘܒܐ ܕܠܐ ܡܣܒ ܒܐܦܐ ܕܡܢ ܠܒܐ ܕܟܝܐ ܘܓܡܝܪܐ ܬܗܘܘܢ ܡܚܒܝܢ ܚܕ ܠܚܕ
lkhd khd mkhbyn thhwwn wgmyr' dky' lb' dmn b'p' msb dl' khwb' mlyn wnhwyn dshrr' bmshthmenwthh npshthkwn qdyshn nhwyn kd
Seeing you have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth through the Spirit in sincere brotherly affection, love one another from the heart fervently:

ܐܝܟ ܐܢܫܐ ܕܡܢ ܕܪܝܫ ܐܬܝܠܕܬܘܢ ܠܐ ܡܢ ܙܪܥܐ ܕܒܠܐ ܐܠܐ ܡܢ ܐܝܢܐ ܕܠܐ ܒܠܐ ܒܡܠܬܐ ܚܝܬܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܕܩܝܡܐ ܠܥܠܡ
lelm dqym' d'lh' khyth' bmlth' bl' dl' 'yn' mn 'l' dbl' zre' mn l' 'thyldthwn drysh dmn 'nsh' 'yk
having been born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the word of God, which lives and remains forever.

ܡܛܠ ܕܟܠ ܒܣܪ ܥܡܝܪܐ ܘܟܠܗ ܝܐܝܘܬܗ ܐܝܟ ܥܘܦܝܐ ܕܚܩܠܐ ܝܒܫ ܥܡܝܪܐ ܘܚܡܐ ܥܘܦܝܐ

For,
“All flesh is like grass,
and all of man’s glory like the flower in the grass.
The grass withers, and its flower falls;
